Yellowstone's Matriarch - In Mono
Stunning profile of Yellowstone's dominant female wolf. This white alpha female leads the Wapiti Wolf Pack. Her mother was also a white alpha female making any encounter with this matriarch incredibly special. The chance encounter occurred in early January as the pack was leaving a nervous bison herd in the Gibbon meadow to move north. Wolf packs will commonly visit different herds in search of weak targets or to stress the bison/elk in order to create weekness in the herd and return days later to inspect their work and to feed the pack.
