Hammer Trap - In Mono

Little known to most inhabitants of North America, the american crocodile is in fact a resident of the United States. They occur primarily in South Florida's Everglades National Park down to the keys. Like other salt water tolerant crocodiles they have a salt gland under thier tongue that allows them to live in salt and brakish water. These are the largest reptiles on our planet and can reach lengths up to 20 feet for males. This photograph highlights an impressive female croc that was well in excess of 9 feet long. She was sunning alongside her diminutive 4 foot offspring on an everglads sandbar. Note the crabs working the food laden soil around her mud bath. The photograph required laying over the edge of a flats fishing skiff to get the croc eye view of the toothy machine. Slight pucker factor to be certain.
